If you’ve made it all the way to Bar Harbor, you are probably ready to enjoy the National Park and local scenery. Getting around can be a challenge with a shortage of parking and bumper to bumper traffic in the high season. Abandon your car and jump on The Island Explorer FREE bus. It’s part of the National Park system with the support of some generous corporate sponsors. It is wonderful.
The buses cover 7 different routes all over Mt. Desert Island so you hop on and off at in the National Park, the many different villages, carriage stables, hiking trails, horseback riding stables and ponds. Bring your bike too, as the buses are equipped with bike racks.
The schedules are available at the Visitors center near the Village Green in Bar Harbor. We spent an entire day just getting the lay of the Vista point on Mount Desert Island, Mane in the Acadia National Parkland with the bus. Enjoy great views from the higher vantage point in the bus. Tips are welcome by the drivers but not solicited.
